The tax system can sometimes be a little confusing so we have provided some information which we feel may be of help.
It is a legal requirement that Day to Day Teachers operate P.A.Y.E. (Pay as You Earn). This means we are responsible for making deductions of Income Tax and National Insurance from your salary.
Income Tax
Income tax will be deducted from your weekly pay in line with
the tax code you will have provided us with.
P45 Form
When you start working through Day to Day you will be asked to
supply your P45. This will contain your tax code and will ensue that tax is
deducted at the correct rate.
P46 Form
If you do not possess a P45 or if it is still with a previous or
current employer, you will be asked to complete a P46 form. This will enable our
payroll department to inform the tax office that you are working through us and
we can apply for your correct tax coding. It will also ensure that you are
not taxed at the base rate (unless applicable).
P60 Form
After the end of each tax year (April) you will receive a P60
form. This informs you of your earnings in the previous tax year and the amount
of tax and National insurance payments that have been deducted.
National Insurance
National Insurance numbers are issued by the
Department of Social Security (DSS) and can entitle you to state benefits. You
will need a National Insurance number so that your NI contributions can be
correctly recorded against your name. You will also need your NI number to claim
any tax back at the end of the tax year.
